Used the Cardinal Greenway from Marion to Muncie for the first time in my life and mostly the first time I had ever biked to a destination outside Grant County. The Muncie depot offers a nice break from the trail, with restrooms and snacks, but has limited hours that they are open. They just added a gate here and the sign says its closed dusk to dawn, so if you park your car there be sure to be out of there by nightfall so you dont get locked in. I rode this on a Monday from the center of Richmond to the south edge of Muncie -- 40 miles -- and back for a total of 80. Cardinal Greenway. We took water and still didnt have enough! show, I decided to bring along the bike to sample some bike trails along the way. I rode the trail on a fairly heavily laden touring bike to The Seldom Scene Meadow B&B. This is one of the best designed trails in the country. The newest section of the Cardinal Greenway runs from Losantville south to Richmond, continually changing from open, sunny stretches to shady sections under a wooded tree canopy. Farther south, the McCulloch Boulevard trailhead allows for a connection to Muncies White River Greenway, which follows the trails eponymous river. We love this trail! I rode this trail for a full one-day shakedown ride for a much longer multi-day trip that I will take later. The Greenway Muncie or Gaston portion is not only safer, but there are so many options available to you after your ride is over that I would stick with that portion. RICHMOND HIGH SCHOOL - HUB ETCHISON PARKWAY The trail is very well maintained with great amenities at the stops. The weather was just right cool. The Deluxe Cabins come complete with linens, towels and kitchen supplies. I am not from this region and had never heard of these critters that can flourish in July and August especially in years when locusts also flourish.
